About Don
Don has painted in oils from the age of eight. Specializing in later years in motorsport subjects.
Don is totally self taught and has developed many techniques in his style of painting.
Don is the resident motorsport artist to the International Art Centre in Parnell Auckland and The Champion Brock Experience in Queensland Australia. Don's work is now available through the Queenstown Gallery of Fine Art, New Zealand.
Don is full time and most of his work is by private commissions, for automotive enthusiasts and collectors. He has also been commissioned by organizations in the motor industry as well as the Bruce McLaren Trust, Child Cancer Foundation and Karting NZ, to name just a few.
Don exhibits at many events internationaly and domestic. Don has exhibited in the UK, USA and Australia and examples of Don's work hang in many international fine art collections.
This is fine recognition of Don's outstanding talent and building international reputation.
The Special (Packmobile), shown below, was hand built by Don. The style is of the 1920's Brookland specials. The body of the "Packmobile" is made using 1/4" marine ply, 18 - 20 gauge mild steel and a good helping of brass.
It's powered by a long stroke 1247cc, 47hp engine of 1938 design. The car weighs in at 610 kgs.
The "Packmobile" is now over 20 years old.
