Phillip Island and Australian GP

Submitted by Don on April 20, 2010

Went to Phillip Island and GP, with a small party from NZ, invited by Jack Quinn & HRDM, we had a ball. Stayed with Jack's folks, who are wonderful hosts, we were totaly spoilt during our stay.

Phillip Island was the main event for me. Not the ideal location for showing a few fine artworks, in one of the pit garages, but a great experience anyway and a lot of people did come through the garage area. Talked to hundreds of people and made some new friends.

Attended a few social events that were a lot of fun, including the Phillip Island Gala Dinner, Sir Jack Brabham's birthday, very special. The launch of the new 458 Ferrari in Melbourne's, Zagame showrooms and then a Ferrari club dinner and supped $200 bottles of wine, very cool.

Warren,s 212 looks at home in one of the pit garages. This car is the subject used in my painting "Italian Export", a joy to behold.

This lovely 1923 RL, belongs to Jack's brother Rod and will be the subject for a painting soon.

Not many have had this experience, Jack Quinn of the HIstoric Racing Drivers Magazine, took the wheel of Guy Moll's 1934 Monaco GP winner. He hit 130mph down the straight at Phillip Island.

All in all, a great trip and a credit to Jack Quinn, thank you.
